base timing and possible fuel pressure problem

What should I have my base timing set at? Its a 94 jrsc'ed grs. Right know I see a red mark on the crank pulley lines up with the mark on the timing belt cover. Isn't the red mark 16 deg btdc?

I just installed an auto meter fuel pressure gauge and every few minutes it will be reading 42 psi and then drop down to 0 for a second then back up to 42 psi. Is this normal? Could it be the way it installed? I used the banjo bolt that came with the kit but with the sending unit on it would hit the hood so I used a cooper 90 deg elbow from the pluming store and put it between the banjo bolt and the sending until. So the sending unit is laying flat.

I really need to get the bugs out of my car because I have unlimited access to 4-6 dynos when ever I want and I'm kind of eager to see what it will do.

My electronic FP gauge did this for a while too. It's almost definitely an electrical problem. Intermittant break in the wires leading to and from the sender.

BTW: There are three marks on the crank pulley. Middle one is 16 degrees. The other two are 14 and 18.

If you don't have any ignition retard electronics (MSD BTM or JR BTC), you should set timing to 10 degrees or so. 8 degrees if you can't get good gas.
